Building a small site, the right way
Example content — why a personal site does not need a CMS, a database, or twelve microservices.
There is a peculiar urge, when starting a personal website, to invent an editorial platform.
This post is example content. It’s here so the blog layout can be judged with realistic copy.
What “right” means here
For a site like this, “right” usually means:
- Content lives in the repo as Markdown
- Pages are static HTML
- Dependencies earn their place
- Future-you can add a post without opening a ticket
Astro happens to be a good fit for that shape. The important bit isn’t the framework logo — it’s the restraint.
Temptations to skip
Comments. Accounts. A custom CMS. A “headless” anything. Skill bars. Logo clouds. Fake testimonials.
None of those make the writing better. Most of them make Tuesday maintenance worse.
A better habit
Write the next post. Publish it. Leave the architecture alone until it actually hurts.
Small sites age better when they’re allowed to stay small.
